About Us

Dr. Beata (Bay-ata) Lewis founded Mind Body Seven, a mental health and wellness practice that focuses on an integrated, mind-body approach to mental health and wellness.

Her connection to integrative medicine started early. Growing up in rural Poland, she watched family members use centuries-old herbal and food-based remedies to treat the body and mind together—demonstrating the profound connection between the two.

Throughout her career, Dr. Lewis has sought to honor that connection between mind and body. She earned her MD from Harvard Medical School, studying adult psychiatry at Columbia University and child psychiatry at the NYU Child Study Center. She also trained with holistic medicine practitioners in India and studied with Dr. Herbert Benson, the pioneering founder of the Mind / Body Medical Institute at Massachusetts General Hospital.  During this time, Dr. Lewis enhanced her expertise as an MD with extensive training in yoga, mindfulness, and a diverse range of mind-body therapies.

When Dr. Lewis opened her Brooklyn mental health clinic, her goal was to build a practice that incorporated psychotherapy, integrative psychopharmacology, mind-body medicine, biofeedback, and nutrition to the benefit of her patients.

Today, the Mind Body Seven team includes psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, psychotherapists, and psychologists—all collaborating on patient care, and sharing an integrated approach to mental wellness.

"We treat the whole person, addressing the root cause of illness. Even small shifts in areas of lifestyle, work, nutrition, exercise, sleep, and mindset can have a huge impact on mental health.”

Mind Body Seven is a collaborative team that embraces the diversity of our staff and strives to create a culture of inclusivity. Our mission is to build a practice that provides increased access to high-quality care for a diverse patient population. We aim to create an inclusive, equitable, fundamentally anti-racist environment where both clinicians and clients can thrive.

Our Guiding Principles

  1. Commitment to Diversity, Inclusion, and Anti-Racism

At our organization, we are dedicated to creating a diverse and inclusive environment where everyone feels seen and accepted. We work to dismantle hierarchical structures by incorporating diverse perspectives into decision-making, which helps us improve our culture and goals. As an anti-racism organization, we recognize that racism can be unintentional and focus on addressing issues of race and color within our systems. We are committed to correcting inequities and celebrating diverse thoughts and identities to foster a supportive and equitable space for all.

  2. Optimal emotional and physical health

The goal of care is for you to achieve optimal health and your highest level of functioning, in all aspects of your life.

  3. Acceptance and care

We know that kindness, grace, empathy, and understanding are powerful healers. We accept and meet you wherever you are on your journey

  4. Integrative approach

We have expertise in conventional and alternative modalities and an open-minded approach to a wide variety of treatments and healing traditions. This enables us to tailor a treatment plan to fit your needs. We use precisely the treatment—or combination of treatments—that will help you the most and bring you the fewest side effects.

  5. Teaching by example

We place a high value on nurturing our wellness, wholeness, and growth. This allows us to be more present, authentic, and knowledgeable as we accompany you on your journey to your optimal wellness.

  6. Shared responsibility

Adults, adolescents, and children recover and grow within a network of social support and various care providers. We aim to support your network and facilitate collaboration and shared responsibility for your recovery and wellness.

  7. Attention to the whole person

We address all the unique things that make you you—your mind, body, spirit, and the environment and social context in which you live.

  8. Prevention

We work with you not only to treat illnesses and crises but to prevent them before they occur. We empower you with the tools you need to achieve and maintain optimal health.

  9. Scientific approach

Scientific research evidence guides both your initial diagnostic evaluation and the ongoing care that we provide you.

  10. The self-healing ability

An essential element of treatment is helping you to identify and strengthen your own self-healing abilities and the innate drive towards optimal well-being and function.

  11. Patient-centered care

We are committed to recognizing your unique experience and circumstances, and to providing care that respects your individuality.

  12. Relationship-centered care

We believe that the ideal patient–provider relationship is a partnership, where we work with you together as teammates toward your goals. We know that a relationship based on respect and the recognition of your autonomy, values, and needs has the potential to be immensely healing and transformative.

  13. Growth

All life experiences are profound learning opportunities and we all continue to grow and develop throughout our lives. We honor and respect your unique path of growth and development.
